Dora Kelley Park is a local favorite for hiking, biking, dog walking, and nature watching. But for years, the unimproved trail had been problematic for several reasons, first the intermittent creeks would overflow their banks and wash out the trail and second patrons would trip and fall on the uneven path which had been eroded from years of use.

The City of Alexandria explored many options, but due to the trail being in an RPA or Resource Protection Area, impervious pavements like asphalt and concrete were not allowed. Flexi-Pave was chosen as the material to pave the trail with due to its resilient nature and lack of maintenance requirements. City of Alexandia polled the community residents and asked them to rate the new trail once it was installed, and results were overwhelmingly positive.
